M-S Sobieski was a Polish passenger ship built for the Polish Ocena Lines to replace the aging SS Kościuszko and SS Pulaski; a sister ship to the MS Chrobry. She was named in honour of the Polish king Jan III Sobieski. The ship was used as a troopship in Operation Ariel and the Battle of Dakar.

Builders of the MS Sobieski are Swan, Hunter and Wallsend.

Three Polish passenger ships, MS Sobieski, Batory and Chrobry, took part in the evacuation operation. Chrobry was sunk on 14–15 May by German bombers.2
